Helen is interested in the areas of Affective Computing, Educational Technology (including Robotics), Learning Processes, and Software Engineering.

Before starting her PhD program she was a faculty member in the Computer Science Department at the biggest private university in México, Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara, México for eight years.

This same institution conferred upon her the degree of MSc. on Computer Science (2000) and the degree of BSc. of Computer Systems Engineering (graduated with honors – 1998). Her experience also include administrative position (as academic program chair of BS Computer Systems Engineering), conference speaker, and software developer participating in both Mexican and US organizations.
